Established in 2007 by Alberto Saro and Sue Callister, Ambient Light Spain (an evolution from Andalucía School of Photography) offers highly engaging photography tours and workshops throughout Spain. We create compelling and enjoyable learning holidays, drawing on our wide range of experience and expertise which encompasses not only photography, but also Spanish culture and cuisine.

We believe photography is a means of creative self-expression, and we want to help you find your own voice. We’ll demystify the camera, giving you the technical knowledge and guidance you need to develop creative narratives and realise your unique personal vision.

In our tours and workshops, you’ll discover the heart of Spain, experiencing for yourself the astounding sights, places, and people who make this land unlike any other. We’ll lead you off the beaten track and take you into an unspoilt wilderness rich with photographic opportunities. In the evenings, you’ll enjoy great company, conversation, and cuisine – Alberto is an accomplished chef.

We keep our class sizes small, both to ensure plenty of one-on-one time and to allow us to personalise the curriculum based on the needs and experience of each individual. Introductory workshops are limited to 4 participants; tours are limited to 4-8.

We welcome photographers of all levels on our tours. Our Know your DSLR workshops cater to beginners and those with an intermediate level of experience.

Alberto Saro – Brought up in a family of well-known London restaurateurs, Alberto split his childhood between life in England, where he helped his father run the family business, and long trips to Spain. His Spanish mother imparted to him a deep love for her country and his heritage; in his early teens, he discovered an equally profound love when he received a DSLR camera as a gift. He found every aspect of photography compelling, from its history to the artistic and technical aspects of the craft. It has been a key part of his life ever since.

A graduate of Boston University, Alberto is fluent in four languages and is an excellent chef in his own right. He has personally researched and explored all locations on our tours, and he will be your technical and cultural guide on your journey.

Sue Callister – An acclaimed black-and-white photographer, Sue was born, raised and educated in Australia. She attended fine art school in New South Wales, and went on to exhibit her work internationally in both solo and group exhibitions. Her work is widely collected and commissioned, recognized for its sensitive atmospheric and evocative qualities.

With an exceptional eye for detail, Sue will help you with the creative and narrative development of your photography, providing guidance on how to capture that profound and intangible quality that creates a lasting impression.
